Illustrators -- those artists who specialize in the art of book decoration -- find a rich store of material when they illustrate Regency fiction. From Arthur Barbosa (Georgette Heyer's favourite illustrator) to C. E. Brock (late 19th century illustrator of Jane Austen's early 19th century work), they depict with loving accuracy the mores, manners and style of the period.
There have been many who have tried to represent the Regency period from our present day perspective, or that of the recent past -- the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Most fail to capture, in my opinion, the niceties of Regency fashion and the intricacies of Regency manners.
The following illustrators, I think, do justice to the Regency period that I love. I hope you enjoy their work.
